What’s On In Perthshire
From Birnam Wood to Dunsinane Hill, the story of Macbeth is woven into the landscape of Perthshire. The latest exhibition at Perth Museum (25th April to 31st August) explores the iconic Shakespearean play that has captivated audiences for centuries, alongside the story of the King of Macbeth who reigned in Scotland 900 years ago.
There is a full schedule of race meetings throughout the year at Perth Racecourse. Perth Racecourse is set in beautiful surroundings, a furlong, or so from Scone Palace. This year sees the first Stone of Destiny Raceday, the Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day, with guest DJ Denise van Outen, and the Murrayshall Estate Race Evening. Click here for the full programmes of races. The Perth Festival of the Arts (22nd to 31st May) is a vibrant celebration of the visual and performing arts, connecting leading artists from around the world with the rich cultural life of Perth. Events include An Evening with Lenny Henry, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and Peter and the Wolf Children’s Classic Concert. Established in 2016, this year is the 10th Anniversary of the Scottish Yarn Festival (30th and 31st August). Held at the Perth Concert Hall, this is Scotland’s largest and longest continuously running contemporary yarn and fibre festival. The Festival brings together independent yarn dyers, producers of single origin wool, tutors and lecturers, all award-winning Perthshire fibre crafters.
Celts are Coming (25th to 27th July) is the Scottish Crannog Centre’s biggest event of the year. Meet craftspeople from all over the world, watch them create, and experience music, storytelling, and the best puppet show in the world. 2,500 years ago, some Scottish people lived in Iron Age loch-dwellings known as “Crannogs”. 17 of these have been found on Loch Tay in Perthshire and since 1980, the ancient dwellings were explored and a based on excavation results, a replica was built.
