Local groups and individuals are invited to share green skills and interests in Perth Theatre’s Fun Palaces
Perth Theatre is inviting people from across Perth and Kinross to get involved in Fun Palaces this October.
Taking place in Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October, Fun Palaces is a weekend of activities run for and by the local community where individuals and groups can gather in the venues to share their creative skills.
Created to celebrate the reopening of Perth’s two key cultural venues, this year’s Fun Palaces has an environmental theme as it takes place in the run up to November’s COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow.
Whatever the interest, no matter how big or small, groups or individuals of all ages with all levels of experience can sign up to share their enthusiasm and knowledge as a workshop, discussion, or provocation.
Anyone from amateur vegetable gardeners to environmental activists or wellness instructors can share their top tips. Keen cooks can demonstrate how to cook from food waste, yoga practitioners can share the difference between a downward facing dog and a child’s pose. Discussions and suggestions about how to reduce carbon footprint or how to make Perth a greener space are welcomed and encouraged.
All Fun Palaces activities will be promoted on the Horsecross Arts website, and guidance and technical support will be offered to those delivering the sessions.
Katie Mitchell, outreach producer for Horsecross Arts, the creative organisation and charity behind Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre said:
“We are very excited to be reopening our doors and what better way to do it by bringing the Perthshire community together? We can’t wait to see everyone’s ideas of what they would like to lead or take-part in for our Fun Palaces Festival this year. We’d love lots of people to get involved and spread the word!”
Perth Theatre’s Fun Palaces is part of free, nationwide campaign that supports local people to co-create their own cultural and community events, sharing and celebrating the genius in everyone. Arts, science, craft, tech, digital, heritage, sports activities – and most importantly people – will work together, have fun together and in doing so will connect communities from the grassroots up. Since 2014 a total of 1758 Fun Palaces have been made across the UK and worldwide by over 40,000 local people with 560,000 people taking part, placing people at the heart of culture and culture at the heart of community.
Groups or individuals who would like to get involved in Fun Palaces can sign up by emailing ku.oc.ssorcesroh@tnemegagne no later than Monday 13 September.
Horsecross Arts is supported by Creative Scotland, Perth & Kinross Council and The Gannochy Trust.
