Awards are the Pride of Perth Racecourse

In a great year when crowd figures were up by over 10 per cent up on attendances in 2022, Perth Racecourse has two industry awards coming its way.

Perth Racecourse is leaping for joy after twice being listed among the finalists at a high-profile industry awards event.

The Racecourse Association (RCA) – in partnership with Great British Racing (GBR), Racing Post, Racing Together and the Racing Foundation – revealed the Scone venue is up for two honours at the 2023 Showcase Awards.

From July to September, all British racecourses were invited to submit entries to the Showcase Awards across eight core categories chosen to reflect the diverse operation of a racecourse.

In addition, two public-voted awards offer customers the opportunity to have their say and crown their racecourse of the year in raceday and owners’ experience.

The RCA received 67 racecourse entries in total plus almost 5000 votes from the race-going public.

Perth Racecourse is now confirmed as a finalist in two categories. These are in Diversity and Inclusion for the Pride Raceday, as well as being one of five tracks put forward by racegoers for the Racing Post Readers’ Award. Winners are announced on November 23.

It caps a memorable season for all the team at Perth Racecourse, who were also boosted by the news that crowd figures in 2023 were 10.6 per cent up on attendances across the equivalent 14 fixtures in 2022.

Perth Racecourse Director of Operations Morag Connaghan said: “These two award nominations are just fantastic news for everyone connected to Perth Racecourse and I’m chuffed for each and every person who contributes to everything we do, no one more so than our hard-working staff.

“With such a positive season delivered, featuring a strong increase in attendances, before being named finalists in two categories of the 2023 Showcase Awards, it’s fantastic news not just for Perth Racecourse but for the city and region too.

“It provides us with an excellent platform to build for another exciting racing season in 2024 which we are well into the planning of and will make some exciting announcements about soon.”

In what is a fantastic year for Scottish racecourses, nominations for Ayr, Hamilton Park, Kelso and Musselburgh Racecourses in addition to Perth mean all five Scottish racecourses will be hoping for success at the Showcase Awards.

Paul Swain, head of raceday experience and communications at the RCA, commented: “Congratulations to our 2023 Showcase Finalists. “I am thrilled to share details of these excellent initiatives. There is an abundance of best practice that should be replicated across the sport and the RCA will ensure this is front and centre of our raceday experience programme in 2024. “This list represents the best of British racecourses over the past 12 months and demonstrates their commitment to providing a fantastic experience for participants and racegoers alike. “Our independent judging panel commented on the high standard of entries this year which was evident when considering the scores awarded.

“My thanks to all racecourses in supporting the Showcase Awards, our independent judging panel for their time and expertise and to our partners who help elevate this event.

“Alongside hosts Aintree Racecourse, the RCA is eagerly anticipating the Showcase Seminar and Awards on Thursday, November 23 where we will crown this year’s winners and overall, Champion Racecourse.”
